Shop Committee Report

Shop Committee Report    March 19, 2008

The Shop Committee as well as the back shift stewards now has complete access to the Union office in the plant. The company has been diligent in trying to foster a better working relationship with the Union. The HR department is working hard to make sure we have meetings to resolve any issues we may have whether they are contractual or just something that is just a rumor we need answers on.

The ME manager is currently having meetings to foster a better working  relationship with union and for the most part these meeting have been productive there have been issues we can not agree on but there have been issues of mutual benefit that have proved to be beneficial to the union and company that we have agreed on.

The recent request by the Richmond facility to get 20 of our members for the BCTGM fixer positions in Richmond as well 5 of our members for the electrical positions in the IAM in Richmond went very well and even though our members had only 24 hours to make a commitment our members welcomed the opportunity to be offered these jobs.

The Shop Committee has approached the Park 500 facility to come to our plant to let our members know what it is like to work there if any jobs are offered at that facility in the near future.

The negotiations that were to take place March 11, 2008 have been postponed and further information will be provided to our membership when it becomes available.

The Shop Committee has been able through working with management to actually correct several issues without the filling of a grievance. Currently we have one member who has been terminated, that the company is taking a second look at issues the union brought forth that may have a bearing on the final resolution to this individual’s termination.

The Shop Committee has let the stewards become more actively  involved in the transfer  process as well  as any grievance generated from there perspective shifts. The Company has worked with the Committee in opening the quotas for the up coming March 24, 2008 curtailment day. The issue involving the 1000 mechanics is sill an issue we are currently working on. In April we have some BCT fixers as well as electricians coming down for training in our facility some of these individuals are former members of ours.

The company will be watching the doors for people that leave there work area early and stand by these exits before the buzzer goes off, and going through the shops looking for people reading  unapproved materials as well as those who may look like they are napping so be aware of this.
